This vibrant creative energy, combined with ocean views, cobblestone streets, and golden-hour light, makes Puerto Vallarta an ideal place for writers to refill the well and reconnect with their work.
What's the weather like in Puerto Vallarta in mid-October?
You can expect warm, tropical days with highs generally in the mid-80s°F (around 29°C) and evenings in the low 70s°F (around 22°C). There may be brief showers—usually short, passing bursts rather than all-day rain—but you’ll also enjoy plenty of sunshine and very warm ocean water for swimming.

When is full tuition due?
Within 10 days of being accepted into the Retreat.
What does tuition include?
Seven days / six nights at Buenaventura Grand, all meals and drinks within the resort, daily manuscript workshops (max 12 writers), two masterclasses, a 30-minute individual meeting, welcome dinner, guided taco tour, sunset cruise & farewell feast, and access to all resort amenities.
What level of writing experience is expected?
This retreat is for writers actively working on a full-length work of fiction—typically a novel or linked story collection. You do not need to be published, but you should be serious about your project and comfortable sharing up to 10 pages for group critique.
Do I need a completed manuscript?
No, a completed manuscript is not required. You just need a selection of pages you’re ready to workshop and refine. These polished sections can help build momentum and pave the way toward your eventual finished manuscript.
Can I bring a guest?
This retreat is designed to give you time to focus on your craft. If you’d like to bring an adult guest (18+), please email [email protected] and we will try to accommodate. Additional costs will apply.
What if I have food allergies or dietary restrictions?
Buenaventura is an all-inclusive resort with a variety of dining options that can accommodate most dietary needs. We will collect this information from you in advance to ensure your needs are met for all hosted meals.
How do I get to the retreat?
Most guests fly into Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR), approximately 15–25 minutes by car from Buenaventura Grand. Taxis and ride services are readily available. While airport transfers are not included, we will provide detailed guidance on recommended options.
If my plans change, can I get a refund?
Due to limitations with the host resort, there are no refunds after tuition is paid in full. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical needs, and other unexpected disruptions.
What will you do with my email?
We respect your privacy. We will only use your email to communicate about this retreat, future Jet Set Write offerings, and related updates. We won’t sell or rent your email, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
